Wanting to learn more.
Howdy! I've been looking all over for good engine tech (preferably 305) books and I can't find anything great so now I'm asking if any of you guys know of anything.
I'm looking for books and/or videos that are basic I guess. Stuff like why things do what they do. For example I don't understand heads, valves, springs, cams, rockers, etc too much but most books tell how to modify or replace them and I just want to know what everything does and why pretty much. Basically a good explaination of everything before I go ripping things appart more.
I know there's a lot of small block build up books out there but they didn't have the info that I'm looking for when I ready through some of them. Hope this makes sense.
Thanks guys and I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving!

This is a great book that teaches a lot on what how and why. It has been a few years since I read it. If I remember right most of what they are talking about is small block chevy stuff. Good read! It's writen almost like a ....For Dummies book.

Thanks, I've been watching the videos on that website and I'm ordering that book. My dad knows most stuff about cars and he said it was from reading, I just have no idea from what books, lol.

Re: Wanting to learn more.
There're no books dedicated to the 305 because it wouls be pointless. There are plenty of good SBC books. The best way to learn is to sign up for Jud Massengills School of Automotive Machinists. I started reading Hot Rod and such when I was 13, then started at a local machine shop and worked my way up over several years, buying every book I could find. I don't agree with everything David Vizard says, but his books are good. Dave Emanuel is a good author. You can also get good books from SA Design, Reher-Morrison, and the John Lingenfelter book is good.
