Need help with oil pickup replacement..

Dented my oil pan and am replacing with a Milodon Oil pan - MIL 30702. I'm using the One piece gasket and Summit/Milodon are recommending the replacement of the oil pickup screen MIL-18600. It is calling for a press fit. Do I truly need to replace the oil pickup screen? and if so can I pull the oil pump when the motor is in the car to press in the oil pickup screen?
Thanks for the help.

You don't need to replace it, but you should check the height of the pickup above the bottom of the pan. If you can get the oil pan off, you can easily take the oil pump off with the engine in the car.

Thanks for the reply. How do I check the height of the pickup?

Modeling clay in the bottom of the pan where the pickup is located. Put it in there and then tighten up the pan. Pull the pan and check your distance that just got pressed into the clay.
