this is for future reference, where to get new engine?
this is just for future reference
i have a 1986 tpi v8 305 5.0 engine
it has 105,000 miles on it, if treated with care should go to 150,000 plus
but im the third owner and not sure how it was treated
i did a bunch of bolt on upgrades and replacements
but eventually this engine will be toast.
should i rebuild it? where can i get a full rebuild kit?
or should i buy a fully built engine and where is a reliable place for that
just for a nice daily driver that has some power at the pedal
note:
i dont want a 350, in a perfect world sure but too much gas and not racing this car so no need for extra power that would get me in trouble

There are countless places to get engines from, depending on what you're looking for.

well duh haha
if i knew where to look i wouldnt ask
some place that is not over priced and reliable
should i get a rebuild kit and where?
or hopefully id rather get a core charge for my old engine and get some money off for a new or already rebuilt one
i want the same type of engine, if anything illl make my own adjustments to upgrade to a 1988 or 89 computer so i can disable the 9th injector but still have a maf system

Call your local parts stores and machine shops and ask for prices.

You can order from a site, but then you have to pay shipping.

I don't know why you think it'll be toast, unless you plan on abusing it.
I'm 3rd owner of Berlinetta #2, the 305 I pulled out back in February had 304k miles on it, no rebuild. I drove it from California to Colorado, with a shorter 800 mile trip after that. It didn't even use a quart of oil during that time, passed both the CA and Colorado emissions tests. Of course, it's no barn burner, but it started, ran, and drove very well.
The engine would probably still be in there if the plan from the start wasn't to put an LS1/T56 in it.
If you're buying a different engine, 350's don't cost any more than 305's. If you're rebuilding a 305, you need professional help (and I don't mean turning wrenches).

Re: this is for future reference, where to get new engine?
it runs fine, idle is alittle high but other than that starts up ok and drives great.
im just really paranoid about it im not an engine guy, i do body and interior work in my spare time
but if it goes to 200,000 or more than awesome. i just have no idea how the car has been driven the past 20yrs or if the odometer is trust worthy(long story)
but car runs great so i guess ill just shut up and be happy i just want to know what to do when the time comes to get a new engine

Re: this is for future reference, where to get new engine?
my l69 (carbed 305) has 340000 kms(211000 miles) and it still runs strong im takin it out over the winter and droppin in a 350 that im rebuilding now for the oobvious advantages of a 350. and just so you know a 350 only has 45 extra CI so there isnt that big of a difference in fuel economy. and most of the parts between the engine are almost identical
