fuel system questions.

I have a 1987 firebird with a 305 carb automatic trans. I have recently been having carb issues and decided to convert to fuel injection. I purchased holley's 2d projection throttle body injection to replace the carb. I had a shop look over the instructions so they could give me a cost. They called today and said that everything should work however I might have to get a new fuel tank because the one I had would not have the proper venting for a fuel injection. They also said if I call holley and ask them about using the evap canister fuel line as a return line. Holley said that was fine. Holley also said that they weren't sure why the shop was saying I would need a new tank. So my question is why they said I need a new tank thats vented for fuel injection.

Gads, that's scary.

Right now you have a fuel supply, fuel return, and vapor recovery line going from the fuel tank to the engine compartment. The vapor recovery and supply line are pretty much a given to keep in place and use as currently. The return line depends, and I'm not all that familiar with that particular Holley set-up.

What's scary is if the shop says something like that, makes you wonder if they are competent to do this job.

Re: fuel system questions.

You'll need a fuel pump that will supply the higher pressure required by the PRO-Jection TBI unit. The carb pump won't work for this application. You might have to replace the entire sending unit, but not the tank.
I assume you know this has an Emission Code 3-Amber therfore Not Legal For Street Use.

Re: fuel system questions.

thanks rgarcia63 the kit came with its own fuel pump, and in canada there isn't to much to worry about emissions wise. It was more of a miscommunication between me and the shop, its all been sorted out now thanks for the help guys.
