I think my Walbro 255 might be dead.....

I heard of some other people having issues with the Walbro pumps, mine has only been in the car about 5months but its been giving inconsistent fuel pressure for a week or so and now none at all.

What other options do I have besides Walbro?

Re: I think my Walbro 255 might be dead.....

Ive got a little free time today to starting checking the fuel pump.
Anyone got any ideas of what to check first to see if I need a new pump or what

Re: I think my Walbro 255 might be dead.....

Sounds like you have already checked the fuel pressure so.....

Check for voltage going to the pump. You can jump two pins on your ALDL port to activate the pump. I can't remember which ones so you will want to look this up. Then check for voltage at the connector under the car in front of the gas tank. If you are getting voltage there and still no pressure then the pump is probably bad. If not then you have something else going on.

Yeh, I have a fuel pressure gauge hooked up to my pressure regulator. It reads nothing and you dont hear the pump come on at all.

Ill search on here for which pins I need to check and then ill start checking voltages, thanks!

I hope its not that pump though, as its only maybe 5/6 months old or so.

The plug for the EGR was unplugged [I dont have EGR] and I plugged it back in and now it works. I wouldent have thought the EGR thing being unplugged would have anything to do with the fuel pump, but at least it was an easy fix.

Re: I think my Walbro 255 might be dead.....

I think I have an issue with a Walbro pump installed in my Monte also. I did some searching and found that the F20000169 pumps have been found to have defects and are/will be replaced by Walbro through your vendor. You will be responsible for the shipping both ways but they will get you a new pump if you happen to have a F20000169 pump. I just received a new GSS340M pump and HotWire kit from Racetronix today and hope to find a 169 pump in my tank when I replace it.

I found this info on turbobuick.com. It was posted by Mike at FullThrottleSpeed.

Do you mean the connector for the EGR solenoid?
It doesn't have anything to do with the fuel pump. They aren't even connected to the same power feed. The EGR solenoid has 2 wires one to a fuse the other to the ECM. You disturbed something else that made it work, or the wiring is damaged shorting against each other.

I have no idea why it worked, but it did. But yes the connector for the EGR solenoid is what i was referring too.

Actually it didn't fix my problem. I was going to install a hotwire kit anyway and had to pull the tank to get to my harness connector; I decided if the tank was coming out, I might as well get a pump too. I'll see what needs to be done about my old pump; worst case scenario I have a known-good spare pump. The problem ended up being my Holley AFPR; installed a Crane unit I had with a new diaphram and problem solved. I put a quarter on top of the regulator spring and now have 50psi with the screw hardly turned in at all.

I think the Monte tanks come out a little easier than the F-body tanks. Two bolts and she drops right out. Getting it back in is the tricky part; those straps make it hard to get the bolts started again.

Re: I think my Walbro 255 might be dead.....

I have heard of the Holley AFPR being a little flakey on some people.

Id think with a Monte Carlo youd have a little more room to work with back there. 50psi is a lot to me, lol. Im running 13psi right now and that might even be a little rich, hah hah. So my Walbro 255 shouldent get too stressed.

Id just return the Walbro that was in there, if it was part of the bad batch, no telling when it might go for real.

There is more room. It's just the way that I routed my wiring when I did the swap that made getting to the connectors difficult (live and learn).

I'm going to see if they'll take back the Walbro that came, but if not, I know it works (or worked when it came out).
