What is this and what does it do Found a vacuum break thanks for the help

It bypasses coolant around the heater core when the heater is off.
Vacuum leaks can cause all kinds of issues.

I also noticed the vacuum hose leads to the something below the driver headlight if I am not bothering you to much what is that. thanks again

That's the vacuum reserve canister so that vacuum operated accessories will still work during periods of low engine vacuum.
