Smoke freaking out girlfriend...
Ok so once and awhile... it might be if i put alot of load on the engine right before hand.. my engine will start pouring smoke out from under the hood that smells like burning oil.. its typical for when i shut it off but ive seen it while i was driving before.. ive got the hood open beor but i cant tell where its coming from.. it seems to be by the passanger side exaust manifold, but there is also oil caked onto the valve cover.. so does anyone have a clue where it is coming from? or what i should do here? my girlfriend thinks its gonna blow up.. and its to cold to just start tearing the engine open in the parkinglot without know whats going on..

Re: Smoke freaking out girlfriend...
I had smoke pouring out from the hood one day, pulled over & every time I turned the steering wheel, the line pressure from the power steering pump caused it to squirt on the exhaust manifold & catching fire!
I was torn between letting it burn down, because I didn't like the truck & putting it out, because it was my ONLY "car"....My first "car" was a green Ford 1/2 ton truck...I hated that thing SOOOO much, but hey..It was that or nothing.

Re: Smoke freaking out girlfriend...
Not likely.. there has never been fire, it smells like burning oil, and the power stearing pump is not on the passenger side of my engine.. but rather the front end of the drivers.. very far away from the exaust manifold.. but thx for trying bro..

Check out the PCV valve, PCV filter, and valve cover gaskets. I'll bet its oil dripping down from one of the valve covers, and a poorly functioning PCV system will not help, especially under load.

my money is on the valve cover gasket leaking down the side of the head onto the manifold. very common in many gm cars.
