88 IROC won't crank

Did a search and couldn't really find a conclusive answer. I tried to start an 88 IROC that hadn't been fire up in about 2 months. Nothing had been touched prior to that. Only thing I noticed with this car is that the battery kept loosing it's charge.

When I turned the ignition, everything else electrical would come on but when it came to cranking the starter, it would not turn over. You don't even hear the relay clicking when we turn the ignition to crank the starter. I made sure the battery was fully charged. We even swapped out a new battery from my other IROC to make sure. Nothing. The starter is a relatively low mileage aftermarket high torque Hitachi mini-starter.

I did notice that when the battery was charged, we had pressure showing on the fuel pressure gauge that was installed on the fuel rail. Basically the fuel pump would stay on even with the ignition off even a few hours after. Only way I can get it to shut off it by disconnecting the 20 amp fuse located next to the battery.

So I guess I have 2 things going on with this car? The starter not cranking and the fuel pump issue both happened at the same time when we tried to charge up the old battery to start it. I'm not clear though as to how both issues are related to each other, if they even are?

Any help would be appreciated.

Try cleaing the battery terminals, clean the negative ground. Ensure that the cables are making good contact. If there's adequate power supply to the starter, then look to see if you're getting power to the switched side of the solenoid.

As for fuel pump, do you have an oil pressure switch? If so, unplug that and see if the fuel pump turns off.
