well when i was trying to connect my heater hose back to the water pump i realized one of my vaccume lines came off from the thermostat housing and was dripping gas.... any reason why?anyone?

 

Your thermostat housing shouldn't have any vac hoses.
What does the hose go too on both ends?
If it's for the fuel pressure regulator then that's bad.

 

I am not real good on the '84s. However, I believe that there is a CCP thermal switch on the thermostat housing. Check the purge cannister, valve(s) and lines to/from it.

On the CCC setups there was usually another valve or two to control the pressure and purging of the cannister.

yeah im not too sure what it is on my housing but i know its from emissions and i think it could be the vapor canister didnt even think about that thanks...

 

When was the last time the carb was rebuilt? You shouldn't have any gas coming out of the vacuum lines. The thermostat housing has two sensors on it. One is the coolant temp for the computer and the other is a thermo vacuum switch for the EGR.

 

yeah sorry for the faulty info it is actually right next to the thermostat housing on the intake manifold and i know there isnt suppose to be gas in the lines thats why i made this post haha

 

The TVS in the intake manifold is for the charcoal canister purge valve. There were some technical service bulletins issued on this problem but I'm not sure on the exact details and the fix. AllData.com or your local GM dealer may have the info.

One TSB I do now about is the plastic fitting on the canister purge TVS becoming brittle and causing vacuum leaks. If its made of blue plastic it should be replaced with the later design. I had to do this on my '84 Trans Am.

 

my carb was recently rebuilt by JBA....just a couple years ago well thanks for the info im gonna go try and figure it out haha
