How Do I cut the Fuel Lines?

Well I managed to cut an access panel for the fuel pump and after making it look all nice and pretty I started to think of how I was going to cut those metal fuel lines without creating any sparks and starting a fire. Is this anything to even worry about? Can I just go ahead and snip them or something?

Or, is there any way that I can remove the fuel pump without cutting the lines?

A hacksaw blade or small tubing cutter might work.

Sure, drop the tank.

Anytime you cut fuel lines in place you're taking a chance. If you MUST do it, I'd use a greased fine tooth hack saw blade. Use compression fittings, not rubber hoses when you put it back (assuming you're still with us) :-)

Do it outside with plenty of ventilation too.

Get a tubing cutter.... looks like a little C-clamp with a little pizza cutter wheel in it. Spins around the tube and cuts it off clean and straight with no jagged edges, sparks, or shavings. They are cheap, and any hardware store will have them.

I dunno... I have a really small one (1/2" is about the biggest it will cut) that is TINY... it will fit almost anywhere.. I've seen them around, they aren't uncommon.

I hear you, but the lines are right up against the tank and there are 4 next to each other.

Thats why you should drop the tank to do this job, instead of hacking your car. you will probably have to use a hacksaw at this point, unless you feel lucky and want to use a cut off wheel. If you use a cut off wheel be sure to video it and post it on you tube for us.

You should be able to get a small tubing cutter. Go to home depot or a plumbing store. If you can cut it with a hack saw you should be able to get a small tube cutter in there. they make some very small ones now a days

Hope that helps good luck.... next time tho do it the right way drop the tank.. Cutting up your car is just asking for trouble down the road

Re: How Do I cut the Fuel Lines?

I ended up using a pair of snips to cut the lines and then a small pipe cutter for the pressurized line.
I put in a new fuel pump, but it didn't solve my problem...
