Timing Light purchase advice needed.
Heyas!
(Did a search going back several months, didn't find anything useful.)
Last summer I bought a cheapo $50 timing light from the auto store when I did a tune-up. It worked a few times and then died.
I took it back and got it swapped out for a new one. It worked fine while I finished the tune up.
This weekend I put in a new distributor and same problem... it died on me.
So, I decided that I should buy a real timing light.
What model should I get? I don't mind spending a few bucks, just so I get a nice one that won't crap out again.
Thanks!

I've had a relatively cheap parts store Equus/Innova digital dial-back light for years.

Just had a Sears/Craftsman light die that was at least 30 years old. I replaced it with another Craftsman.

As long as it's not so old that it expects to pierce the plug wire, just about any timing light should work.

Not sure exactly what you're using it for. Since you're spending the bucks anyway, maybee opt for a unit with a timing advance feature. It's not needed for basic tune ups, but sure makes high rpm total advance readings a lot easier. Sears has one for about $75 bucks.

Thanks for the replies everyone.
Looks like a Sears model will last a bit longer than the two I had. Each one of them only lasted about 2 uses.
I checked the manual on it and didn't notice any special procedures that I messed up that might cause it to fail.
So, I just want to make sure I get a decent one that will last. Generally, I buy pretty good tools because you can keep them forever.
However, I didn't think a timing light, for the very little use I would give it, would go bad so easily. Once again, I got bit by false economy.
Thanks!
