Buying An Engine
I been looking through all these threads about what engine to buy, what combo to use, cheap prices for engines, etc. Getting straight to the point, i need to replace my L98 engine on my 88 camaro. I dont want to purchase a refurbished one or rebuilt one because of the complaints i seen on the boards. I been looking at the GMPP crate engines but i seem people saying "compression sucks in that 290hp engine" or "you need to buy another TPI intake to put it on the H.O.". So what are really my options? I need to keep my stock TPI setup since i live in california, this is my daily driver/stop light to stop light racer, and thats the way i need to keep it because of emissions. I really dont have that much money to burn, and im also looking at short blocks. So what do you guys think? any suggestions? part #'s? Thanks!

I would look at summit part#MLL-BP383, its a 383 short block, 4-bolt main, flat top pistons and is like 1800.00 bucks not a bad price considering what parts and machine shop prices are now a days!

Here's an idea, probably at the upper end of your TPI Bucks ?

Otherwise, dont discount rebuilt crate motors / short and long blocks offered by reputable shops. Many advertise online and in various publications. All comes down to how much money you can part with and how much of the re-build you can perform yourself?
One last link; http://www.competitionproducts.com Check out the prices of their complete 350 and 383's.
Good luck

Another guy to check with is Gene Culley Chevrolet(gmpartshouse.com) in PA. This guy is an avid "corvetteforum.com" supporting vendor and has some of the best prices. I've bought lots of stuff from this guy. Betting he can fix you up with your exact service short or long block. Maybee get a short block and have your heads serviced for a couple hundred bucks. Gene's at 610-862-0550 x 172 or gculley@gmpartshouse.com. Good luck
