Turbo 3.8 and T56 6 Speed?
Turbo 3.8 and T56 6 Speed?
I have a 91 convertible Firebird and a swap from a 89 TTA, I thought a manual would be fun. I'm not looking so much for speed, just something fun to drive and different. What I want to know is if the T56 would work with the turbo 3.8, what kind of problems could I expect with everything lining up? Has it ever been done before? Is it even possible? What would need to be done for it to work?
Thanks, David

IIRC, the Buick 3.8 uses a traditional BOP-style bellhousing. If you can get an aftermarket T56 bellhousing/scattershield with a BOP bolt pattern, then that should make it all work. Clutch and flywheel may be another problem though.

Yeah the 3.8's use a BOP bellhousing. I am fairly involved with the turbo buicks and i do not know of anyone that makes a bolt on flywheel/clutch combo for a swap like that...but then again I've never really pursued using a manual. Sounds like it'll be a fun car to drive though...only thing is you can't take advantage of leaving the line under boost.

I know this thread is quite old, but I hope someone does that swap in a Trans Am. 2 have done it to a Buick GN.
