383 combo
383 combo
ok i got quite i bit of money saved so im steppin up to a 383 and this is what i have so far. scat fordged crank and 6 inch h-beam rods. 10.5:1 fordged pistons, AFR competition 195 heads, performer rpm intake, & lunati 226/234 duration at 050 .565/.565 lift with 1.6 rockers (roller rockers and cam). im pretty sure this will give me a honest 475 hp or more. its goin in my 71 nova with 3.55 gears, 26 inch tires, and a built 200r4 with a 2000 stall converter. what do yall think??

That cam is really weak. Why build a 383 with expensive heads when you aren't going to use the cubes or head flow to their full advantage?

Re: 383 combo
I'd say that cam/converter combination makes for a good street setup, but there's probably 40hp/.4 e.t. or maybe more left to get by a 245+ duration cam and 3500+ stall.

Re: 383 combo
yeah i'll second that...that cam duration seems kinda small for a 383. If your just going to run this on the track i would go to a single plane intake and like a 8" 4000 stall converter. i don't know what your options are with the 200 tranny...we couldn't keep one in my buddies buick long enough to really try anything lol.

Re: 383 combo
I agree with more cam and at more stall. ~234° @ .050" should be on the intake side, not the exhaust. At least 3k stall.

well this is going to be my daily driver and ocassional track so figured that cam would give me good pull to about 6000 and still have good bottom end for the street. i got those badass heads so when i decide to get a truck and turn my nova into a drag car all i have to do is switch to a bigger cam and converter. iv heard lots of guys running a 200r4 behind 600hp machines its just how much money you have to build it up. yall think i can hit 11's with this setup? or is 12's more realistic. i ran a 13.5 when i had my 375hp vortec 350, th350, and 2.73 gears in my nova.

I don't think it'll get solidly into the 11's with that combination, but it should be close to it. Just thinking of how my car was setup when I was doing mid 11's, and it looks to me like you're going to be about 1/2sec. slower than I was.
