90 5.0 mods??gutted cat,headers,regulator

single cat 5.0 5 speed bird.I was thinking about getting a edelbrock cat back for 115.00 used.is flow master better then edelbrock?also going to gut the cat out when I do it.and is it worth putting shorty headers on the motor, would there be much of a difference with shorties?also would a aftermarket fuel regulator be better?.I'm also going to change the cam(not sure what to get yet) and chip the computer and get 24lb injectors.are all these mods worth doing?
my car is stock except for a air intake, has a posi and will toast the tires in 1st and 2nd and squak in 3rd.car has alot of ***** for a 305.I had a 88 gta ws6 with the 5.7 tpi and 5 speed with alum. heads, headers, high flow cat and flowmaster muffler with adj. fuel regulator, holley throttle body over sized runners and I could only get 1 st and a squak in 2nd and didnt seem no where near as ballsie as my 90 5.0.

So this is a TPI engine?

Almost all of the 3" cat-backs are good and will give you 10-15 more horsepower.

Gutting your cat is illegal in all 50 states on a street car. Replace it with a aftermarket catalytic converter instead. Help us hot rodders keep our good name instead of giving us a bad name.

Shorty headers are great and they work better than manifolds, but some people feel long tubes are better and worth the hassle in ground clearance and y-pipe routing. Its your choice.

Stay with the stock camshaft until you plan on replacing the intake manifold and timing chain set as well. Its too much of a hassle to swap the cam while keeping those stock worn out parts. Not to mention the valve springs and valve stem seals need changing when you change cams, too.

Find someone local to you who can do custom chips, or buy the equipment and do it yourself. An off the shelf chip from Hypertech or JET is not worth the money. You can advance the timing, install a lower temp fan switch, and install a lower temp thermostat yourself for less money and get all the benefits.

24lbs injectors are not necessary on a 305 stock engine.

If you have further questions, please read all the tech articles and the technical data linked on the front page of this website. There is a huge amount of knowledge there that will answer your questions.
