Quick Up
Need a low budget build on my 305. Just a mild build for cheap, nothing to fancy. Please don't tell me to go get a 350, its more of a pain since i'll have to get the engine mounts, the 350 block complete with low miles and the ecm for it, and something thats newer.. :\ rather not. Just want a cheap 305 build, camshaft and pistons w/ rods or something, few part swap with a decent adds to my engine please.

Timinsk

Re: Quick Up
Well depends on your budget. Generally speaking cheap and performance or even quality for that matter dont really go hand and hand. Althouhg if i had to take a stab at your best bang for your buck mods would be this is what ide say.
1. EXHAUST! Our exhaust systems are terrable get headers high flow cat and a cat back.
2. Cam generally speaking the cams used in our cars are terrably small. I know my 86 TPI TA has the smallest cam ive ever seen. Even comp cams fuel economy cam that runs from idle to lik 4500 rpms is bigger lol
3. Air intake A cold air intake is easy to instal and give noticeable hp gains deffinetly wanna get a set of k&n filter for it as well (if not already installed
These are the basic best bang for you buck mods i can think of. Best of all if the parts are chosen properly they will not only boost your performance but increase your gas mileage as well. Also again if you select the right parts are also street legal. You may also want to look into getting some l98 heads if you can get them for a reasonable price.

Re: Quick Up
Best bang for the buck is Vortec heads and cam upgrade. Make sure they are 305 Vortec if you stay with a 305.

Re: Quick Up
GM Vortec 305 heads, They came stock on 1996 to 1999 GMC and Cheverolet pickup trucks with 305 cid engines. The mods are the same as the 350 Vortec.

Re: Quick Up
As I've mentioned in previous posts, these guys got 380 bhp from a 305 and the work involved was about $2000, if that's not too pricy, and everything is bolt over to a 350.

Are you looking to add bolt ons or rebuild your engine? Are you wanting to keep the TBI?

Re: Quick Up
Gm makes a vortec TBI manifold so you can run vortec heads. I'm sure you can get a COMP CAM that will work with your TBI. I think TBI cars run well and wouldn't blame you if you kept it.

Re: Quick Up
Is your engine sound?
If so, I would not bother rebuilding it, because $500 would not be nearly enough, unless you know ho to do your own machine work or you know somebody else that knows how to do it and has access to a machine shop.
There is a good cam from comp cams that works well on TBI engines and on TPI engines, however it will require that you put in new valve springs, the heads may have to be machined for proper clearances, which will not be all that cheep. Some people have had good results by installing LT1 cams in their LO3s, which is a much cheaper route, but still precautions should be taken such that proper clearences are met and things are working properly.
I guess the big question is can you do all the work yourself, or do you have to pay somebody else to do it? Also, how much power do you want to get out of your 305? Depending on your goals, you may be able to achieve what you are looking for with bolt ons and tuning.

could you convert this in the items i'd need? i read the article but they only post the company names not the exact item sometimes.
I don't mind spending more than 500$ im just saying i dont want to spend alot of money, i could swap parts, but i cant machine anything. cam, heads, manifold i know i'll be needing those. just need a good part list thats all. give me a combonation i need and what i need to do.
