I have a 92 Camaro originally 305 tbi but now a carb'd 358. My starter is getting old and weak and I need a more powerful one. I'm not sure if i should buy the oem one or not, it doesnt start the car that great once its been running for a while, because of my higher compression. also, ive heard there is a security wire that runs to the starter? So i'm not sure whether or not I have to buy one of that nature, or if i can go with any high torque starter. I'm not familiar with starters and i've never installed one, but i have my exhaust and heads off now so it would be a great time to replace it. If you guys have any suggestions on which one i should buy that would be great. Thank alot. MC

That's the starter I'm using on the 396 in the '57.

The security system is VATS. It doesn't affect what starter you use.
