Ok so i have a 1989 camaro rs with a 305 tbi. ive checked the fuel pump the fuel filter and ive made sure it had gas. First I checked if there was any spark and there wasent so i replaced the cap and rotor on the distrubitor. Did NOTHING. then i checked the fuel filter its pretty clean and still works. up next was the fuel pump. I took off the line at the tbi and checked to see if it was pumping anything. It was so i know its working. then i thought the ecu/ecm. I used the diognostics plug looking for engine codes all i got was code 11 aka the hand shake code or code to show you its working. so im guessing the engine is ok. next was to reset the ecu so i unplugged it and the battery and hooked everything back up. NOTHING, she still wont start. the only way i can keep it running is if i maunally poor gas into the tbi. so what should I do next. Obviously its a gas problem so should i replace the injectors or what??? please help me.

 

I can not begin to tell you how confused I am here...

First you said it has no spark.

Next you are saying it runs with gas pouring in it.

I am assuming you have checked the fuel pressure and spark correctly.

Fix one problem at a time. If you see no spark, make the ignition work, then move on to the next problem.

next you can purchase a cheap fuel pressure gauge and take some readings as you crank the engine and let it sit.

You could have a bad pump, regulator, filter or lines. on a car that old...you may want to overhaul the fuel system, it's probably not looking too good in there.

My T/A was a Quadrajet 4 barrel which has left me ignorant to TBI, but I'm pretty sure it's an easy system to work with. This site is choc full of good information...going back several years now.

If you have spark, check the fuel system electrically with noid lights (or test light). They would plug into the connector for the injectors. If they are lighting up, your injectors should be firing. If not, you may need to check for power to the injector. If so, plug the connector back in and find the injector wire at your PCM (use a diagram). With key on, you should have 12 volts at that wire. When cranking and running, you will see that voltage go to close to 0. If you have 12 volts there, you most likely need a new PCM.

 

ok i replaced the injectors and still she wont start what should i do next

 

I GOT IT RUNNING!!!! It was the ecu i got a new one and she started right up but now i have to fix the injectors there in wrong but thats a easy fix.

 

Congrats on the fix. Remember, don't just throw parts at it, diagnos it. Will save you money in the long run.
