Hey guys, so I am in need of a carburetor and I have a holley 600cfm (1850-3) in my garage. I have heard many times about how bad these carburetors are. My question is, are they as bad as I have heard? Or is it just a myth. Thanks in advance.

 

A proper answer would require knowing more specifics about your engine, car, and what you'll be using the car for.

The vacuum secondary carbs are not my favorite by any stretch. But, they will run, they can be tuned without a lot of trouble, and they don't constantly have to be retuned as some people seem to think.

 

The carburetor will be going on a 355 I am working on, along with a set of ported 305 heads (416 cast) with stock valve sizes. Cam will have about .460 lift when I get it. I am going to attempt long-tube headers. And I will have a edelbrock performer (or holley performer) dual-plane intake manifold. All of my friends recommend a 650 and say a 600 is hard to tune and keep tuned. I got the carb for free, and it appears to be in working condition.
