i have an 1991 camaro rs, when i bought the car i didn't know anything about engines and cars, after 5 mechanics putting as much money as i payed for the car, i figured out from what i read on this site that it is ignition problems, i have the security light that stays on, which from what i have read means the VATS security is the problem, same thing the code is reading, now from what i read, i add a risitor equal to my key, it would start up, now i put a risistor of 900 ohms (wich my key is 886 ohms) but my car still acts like its out of battery, with the security light still on, what should i do, becuse me and my 3 minds that i have over here are stumped.

 

What exactly is it doing...or not doing? Could you be a little more descriptive. What is happening when you turn the key? Does the motor crank? Fire? Do nothing at all?

no nothing at all, its as if there is no battery, i turn the key one click forward, i hear the fuel pump, one more click to fire her up, then nothing, not a click, absolutly nothing, i went back down to look and the security light stays on, the check engine light is on, and the infl rest light will blink 7 times then stop blinking

 

Any help on how to bypass this system?

 

at first it cranked over than i tryed to bypass the system and now it wont crank at all.

 

i have the restrictor in the orange wire, is that right, or do i need it in the yellow wire?

 

o.k. after checking the yellow wire looks like it is the orange wire

 

I'm getting more help on a 2nd gen site then on this site.

 

How is it that guys that work on 70's to earily 80's know more about this than you guys who work on this stuff all the time? That wasnt an option back then. 3rd gen yea right. I guess the older the better. Thanks for all the help

 

getting rid of the vat is a 5 min job put a resistor matching the key in line or buy the painless vat box
