Possible Evap System issues.
My car has been running well without any problems until this morning. I tried starting it, but it would only idle at like 450rpm. When I revved the engine it seemed to run fine, but when I took my foot off the gas it died. I started the car again with my foot on the gas, gave it a few revs, and after that it seemed to idle just fine and run fine.
Tonight, when I was leaving work, it did the same thing. By the time I made it home it smelled like fuel and I could hear the tank venting just behind the left rear wheel well. I tried to start the car and it died immediately. I opened the hood and it smelled like fuel under there. I looked around, everything seemed to be plugged in, disconnected the vacuum line to the charcoal canister, reconnected it, made sure that the plug was plugged into the canister purge solenoid. But did not see anything obviously wrong. I went in, started the car with my foot on the gas and drove it to my girlfriends house. When I left there a couple hours, later my car started right up, ran beautifully, and the gas smell was gone. What do you guys thing is going on? Could a problem with the Evap system be causing my problem to have these starting and idling problems. It has been sort of an intermittent problem. How can I check to make sure that the purge solenoid is working properly? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
