Help with noise
Help with noise
Just replaced Electric Fuel Pump by the hack method (sorry) car is now running again I need some help with this kind of noise coming from inside the tank is like a distant blender/vacuum cleaner with a bad bearing..you know that kind of noise that is not even..could be the return lines making this noise by dumping fuel back to the tank? or aftermarket fuel pumps make this kind of noise?..(ZERO experience with electric FP)

Re: Help with noise
If this is a TPI engine..
The in-tank pump you just replaced produces quite a bit of power.
Well, when you turn the key to ACC/power, the fuel pump
primes the fuel injection system to 45+ PSI before you make
the final turn for ignition.
That is the noise you hear, even the factory pumps hummed.
Id imagine a stronger pump would be just as audible too!
The "hum" gets more audible with lower fuel levels from my observation.
I can hear the pump function when inside the car with my windows up
and radio off as well.
Hope that helps!

Re: Help with noise
if your fuel pressure is fine and the noise is coming from inside the gas tank..then you are ok
Re: Help with noise
just finnished a full hour of trying to make to a/c work .. the engine idle/pick revs so quick i thing the spark plugs job is going to be put aside
the point is I think this new gen of cheap pumps are a lil bit too noise OR the fact that the new "door" to the tank is still open/no pad/carpet in place is ading extra decibels which agravate the old man

Re: Help with noise
if you have no padding over that door, you will hear a ton of noise, exhaust, the fuel pump will sound like a hoover, all that goes away when you put the door on
I put the TPI pump in my TBI and at first i was like wow this is loud, slapped on the door and carpet, now it sounds normal.
If you can get a sound clip of what your referring to that would help distinguish it.
