HVAC Box Problem

Hi, I was hoping someone would be able to help me... I put headers on my 88 Iroc and afterwards... the hvac box caught on FIRE!!! and melted right thought... There was about an 1/4-3/8 gap between the header pipe and the box... so I pulled the header off and wrapped it with exhaust wrap... caught FIRE again!!! What is wierd is my 89 Iroc has not had a single problem with this and the header is closer to the box on it than the 88. So my question is does anyone have an idea why or seen this before... And does any one know where to get an aftermarket evap box that is either further away from the header or made of a non combustable material.

Thanks in advance for the support

Mal

I'd be looking at a scan of your runtime parameters. It may be running lean. It shouldn't get that hot with wrap.
