Cant decide between these cams...
Last summer i completed my 335 build. It has some decent power but i want to go with a bigger cam now. Here is my current setup: 355 with vortec heads, performer rpm intake, holley 600cfm carb, flat top pistons, comp cams xe262h cam, stock torque converter, hooker shortys, and not sure if gears are stock 2:73 or not (i can find out when i get home tonight). I understand that vortec heads can only take so much cam before they cant make anymore power, so i want to go with the cam that will make the most power without overdoing it and potentially making less power by having too much cam for the heads. The heads were modified for more lift so thats not an issue. I narrowed it down to these cams but im not sure which one would be the best fit. I plan on racing the car on a 1/4 mile track so im going for the fastest 1/4 mile time if that helps. Here are the cams:
Comp XE274H-274/286 adv duration, 230/236 @ .50, .490/.490 lift, 110 lsa.
Comp XE284H- 284/296 adv duration, 240/246 @ .50, .507/.510 lift, 110 lsa.
Lunati Voodoo 60103LK- 268/276 adv duration, 227/233 @ .50, .489/.504 lift, 110 lsa.
Lunati Voodoo 60104LK- 276/284 adv duration, 233/241 @ .50, .504/.525 lift, 110 lsa.
I am looking for a rough idle but power/torque comes first so if i have to sacrifice the idle for power i will. I plan on upgrading to a higher stall torque converter so that isnt an issue. I will upgrade the carb too if necessary. SO what do you guys think which cam would be the right choice? Like i said i want to be fast in the 1/4 mile and preferrably have a rough idle. If you think i can go with even more of a cam with my heads im open to more suggestions. If you need anymore info let me know.
Thanks,
Dave

You might consider going after the other and needed mods along with the cam you choose, first or as a package. In other words, replacing and upgrading the gears, converter and possibly heads or head work to match your selection. Just my .02

Yeah i plan on doing it all at once, i just want to compile the list of needed parts before i purchase anything. Im just not sure how much cam vortec heads can take. I want the lopiest, most powerful cam i can get, but within the limits of the vortec heads because i dont have the money to buy better racing heads.
