Increase HP

To start off let me introduce myself! I just joined and my name is Kolby. I recently bought a 1988 Trans Am GTA and I LOVE it. I got to eat my first Honda two days ago and it felt great. Now here is my question. I want to increase the horsepower. What would be something good to start off with? I'm not wanting to spend thousands of dollars. I just want to increase it a bit, keep busy, and have fun. Thanks in andvance!

Re: Increase HP

well welcome to the party! lol i'd say the first thing to do is a full tune up and then get a cat back with a flowmaster and then build on that with headers then skys the limit from there. afr with bigger injectors and mild port work to the intake. it all depends on how big your wallet is

Re: Increase HP

Definitely Tune up. As for AFR's? Probably not even close to that mod yet. Try a high flow catted exhaust with some headers.Thats good for bang for the buck. Or Maybe an open element K&N Air filter too.

Re: Increase HP

ive got full exhuast headers hi flow cat and flowmaster and it made a big difference. then i did the ram air mod and wow made a huge difference but ive only driven it once and it the middle of the drive my hood folded up on me it sucked hardcore but ive got 24lbs injectors and afr my mechanic is puttin in along with a set of roller rockers. but i just bought an 84 z28 with a turbo daytona hood for 400 that runs and drives so im pumped about my new hood and being able to drive my car again

Re: Increase HP

Since I already have new headers, I should go with new exhaust?

Re: Increase HP

did the car already have this stuff when you bought it or did you do it? cause you may already have some sort of a system if the headers are already on the car

lol just like my car. Had a pyro kit in it, fun to play with but really bad on mpg. My vote is have a mechanic carefully go through it and tell you exactly what you have, it will make future upgrades/mods much more straightforward and lower the number of surprises you will encounter. Just my experiance.

Re: Increase HP

The spark plugs are still in but the wires arent anymore. It has a new bumper that I would hate to melt.
