Alternator problem?

I went to start my 1991 formula firebird today and it wont start. It starts to turnover but wont complete it. I was reading that if you try to start it with the headlights on and they dim its the alternator, would this be true? They do dim when I try to start it. Any help would be very appreciated.

Re: Alternator problem?

I wouldnt say thats true your best bet would be charge your batt or jump the car then while its running check how much power is at the batt with a meter. you should have around 14 volts if the alt is good
