Pulled a big bone head move today, need some help

So, I'm in the middle of getting my t56 ready to go in and realize that i need to drill another starter bolt hole in the block. Drilled and tapped it straight and everything... but I used a 7/16 14 pitch, rather than the 3/8 16 pitch. What do you think can be done?

Another thing which is slowing up my swap is that my pilot bearing slips easily in and out of the crank. it is an eagle crank. I'm planning on calling eagle tomorrow, but has anyone else run into this problem?

Thanks,
Louis

i have experienced the same thing with the pilot bushing ...

the helicoil might work if you havent already over drilled for it ... and i would tell you that a double helicoil(one inside the other for a step down of 2 sizes) is a very bad idea for a starter bolt

well they are sorta one size fits all chevys... you are just using the standard bushing no fancy roller bearings right?

is it a new one or a take out?

mine was new so was the crank... it wasn't loose just not a press fit maybe .0005-.001 clearance so it could be taken out without to much trouble... not like it would fall out... i made sure there wasn't any grease on the OD of the bushing or the ID of the crank pushed it in as far as it would go then greased the ID of the bushing... all it is for is to provide support for the input shaft... make sure it isn't being pushed off center

It was a new crank, I tried a roller and a standard bushing, both slid in and out easily with my pinkey. I just dont want it to spin inside the crank

The dilemma that I'm having is that the 3/8 helicoil kit calls for a 25/64 (.390625 inch) drill bit and I've already tapped for a 7/16 (.4375 inch) bolt.

Anyone use one of these EZ lock thread inserts?
http://www.ezlok.com/InsertsMetal/ThinWall.html

Looks like I would have to go up to a 1/2 13 pitch to get my 3/8 bolt to fit (using EZ lock p/n 319-6). Should I cut my losses; not remove more material from the block (further weakening it) and just use the EZ lock for my existing hole (p/n 319-5) and a 5/16 bolt? Will that size suffice for a starter bolt?

thanks in advance
