I knew it was knocking, but seriously...

I just got this 350 with the truck for $300. Guy said the lifters were ticking. started it myself and it was more than a tick, it was some serious play in there, but hey, $300 for a $350 and a good truck, why not. Thought I could atleast get it started, backed out of the spot & turned around so i could pull it home with the Durango.... well, that's all i got out of it. Pictures below show what happens when "lifters are ticking" LOL.... the last picture was my latest discovery when i found out that the broken cam actually had babies inside.....

MOTOR REBUILD TIME!

Gotta love people dont ya lol. Its ok just alittle tick no worries lol. Personally ide really like to know how you break a cam lol. Short of putting a stroker crank in without useung a small base cam shaft i have no idea how that kinda damage can be done lol.

You might want to double check if that's even a 350. Just eyeballing the pistons and how much space there is between them it looks like a 305 to me. Late 70s/early 80s vintage if I had to guess judging by the deep full-dish piston faces.

Re: I knew it was knocking, but seriously...

what a f'ing weekend.... got a new 350 block saturday at like 9pm. stayed up all night tearing it down, honed out the cylinders, re-oiled all the bearings, redid the rings, re-oiled the cam, checked all the lifters, spot cleaned every piece of the motor and put new gaskets on everything (for the first time, I actually did a rebuild 100% correct) NEVER AGAIN!!! it works so much better if i just slap the rusty piece of crap carboned over junk into the engine bay, slap the starter on and away we go!!!

Anyways, didn't go to bed until almost 2:30pm sunday afternoon....

Started it up today.................

Radiator Empty
Oil Pan OVER Full and GRAY!
No. 5 cylinder plug pulled and watched like a quart of water shoot out of it to my fender...

I GAVE UP!!

IT'S SITTING ON THE CURB NOW $600 OBO

P.S. EVEN WITH THE WATER IN THE CYLINDER... IT RAN SO FREAKIN STRONG... I MEAN DIDN'T STUDDER OR SKIP ONCE!!

MORE PICTURES TO COME OF WHAT ELSE I FOUND ONCE THE BLOCK WAS PULLED!!

Magna..... What?? who the heck does that anymore lol!! nope, didn't do a single thing, as noted further below, it was an overnight project so i could get it to work today, nobody does magnaflux or straight edge at 3a.m., well not in Oklahoma anyways LOL....

didn't do any of that, just actually took my time and "re-did" everything, cleaned everything with cleaner, wire brush or emory cloth, or both.

Oh well, out of my driveway now.........(well tomorrow when they tow it away)

What does a tick sound like? I had thought I had some ticking, but it was just the TBI injectors. They are loud.
