Surging idle and strange timing condition.
Surging idle and strange timing condition.
Since this board seems to get much more traffic than the TPI board (and I think I should have posted here in the first place), I am going to make a topic here, but keep it brief. Mods, if there are any problems let me know and move my original thread from TPI to here please.
Problem is discussed more thoroughly in this thread:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tpi/...em-timing.html
Placing the original distributor in seems to have solved the sputtering and pinging when I accelerate the engine, but the idle problems remain.
Engine is still surging between 500-1500 rpm and always dying within 30-45 seconds.
I have no codes other than 12, EGR is fine. Disconnecting the EST bypass makes the surging idle stop, and engine idles very well.
I am missing something I believe. Can the distributor still be at fault for this surging idle? What other components are information being drawn from that the computer would use to adjust the spark timing besides the distributor's module and pickup?
