Heater core blow?

Hi, i have a 91 T/A WS6 305 tpi and i noticed collant is dripping down on my interior, by the dash where my feet are. On both my side and passenger side. My dad and me think it is the heater core. not sure though. if so, can i replace it myself? and are there any PICS. of where it is exactly located i know its on the fire wall, in the dash, i think, right? thanks, Gary

Re: Heater core blow?

its your heater core. coolant is running through the floor duct. get a manual for your car its pretty easy just time consuming.
heater core from auto zone is about $24
good luck and have fun

Re: Heater core blow?

yep, your heater core is finished. This is among the worst jobs. The heater core is low and on the passenger's side. It's been a while since I did one, so all I can tell you is to get a factory service manual, and don't force anything. No, that's not all I can tell you. I can also say the first step is to undo the hoses, in the engine bay, from the core, before loosening anything. I can also tell you my experiences with bypassing the core and running no heater.

Re: Heater core blow?

"By the book" is the hard way, of pulling the whole dash back.

It is pretty easy to reach from underneath (except for ONE small bolt) without pulling the whole dash.

I've found the easiest way is to pull the passenger seat (4 bolts) to give you more room to lay on the floor & reach up under the dash.

Re: Heater core blow?

im having the same problem when i had to take the lower dash off to put in carpets and run some wires. i still have to align the duct work so the air and heater work.

Re: Heater core blow?

Gary,

Its not that bad to replace. Here's the link to follow:
https://www.thirdgen.org/heatercore

There are a few things that really helped me get to the bolts of the black box which houses the heater core without removing the dash:

You should get some extensions for the little 1/4 inch ratchet.

Just unbolt the kick panel on the passenger side and put the bolts in a place that won't roll away or get lost. Then you loosen the panel right above the lower kick panel. Then start going after the housing. Its easier to get to the top bolt with the 1/4 extensions. Just move things around to help you get a better approach. Just be patient and you can replace it without removing the dash. Do be careful when putting the new core in not to bend the ends.

Post your results.
