melling m55 pump

i heard that the m55 pumps are weak now... i already bought it...should i use the m55 pump or get a different one now.... if so which one....

on another site they said that this is the one to equal the old m55a
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...4+&appfilter=1

heres what they say

High pressure performance upgrade for M-55 & M-55A. Standard volume oil pump. The 10553 housing and cover are CNC machined and phosphate coated. Manufactured with pink spring installed for higher pressure (M-55A). To change pump to lower pressure (M-55) install the supplied yellow spring. Includes intermediate shaft with steel guide. The 10553 uses a 5/8" press in screen.

with that being said will this screen fit that 10553 pump

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

its standard volume and standard pressure which i need right....i noticed that it goes to 1987... so does that mean it would not fit a 95 vortec 5.7 block..... what pump... i really need help... thanks...

Re: melling m55 pump

i already found my answer... im going with the 10553 pump... i have the m55 thats the one i have now..... i dont want the 19 dollar thing...... the 10553 is based on the old version m55 and is 80.... the regular m55 pump is on the left and the beefier 10553 pump is on the right.... ive looked and everyone says that the m55 series are a POS and go with the stronger 10553 pump.... the weakness is at the neck and the whole thing is of a much thinner casting..... and this 85 dollar one does not have that weakness... you get what you pay for.....

Re: melling m55 pump

i said M155, not m55, bigger inlet, and befier casting, used on 87+ engines, also a 80$ oil pump dosnt pump oil any better than a 20$ pump

Re: melling m55 pump

The stock replacement pumps M55 and M77 (BBC) have been made offshore for a few years now. The casting really changed and is weak. For a daily driver engine, they're fine but race engines using heavier oil have been know to break the pumps.

I'm lucky, the pump in my engine is still one of the older castings. Many racers are switching over to the Moroso pump which still uses the older casting or they just upgrade to a billet pump.

Unless you "break" a pump, you can use them over and over. If you spun a bearing or did some other damage inside the engine, open the pump up to see if there's any scoring. Many times there's nothing wrong with it and a simple cleaning is all thats required before reusing.

Re: melling m55 pump

i cant use my old one because my pump went bad along with 3 spung bearings and metal shavings all in the oil... it wasnt pretty.... basically blew up... thats why i need a good quality oil pump... look at my mods in my sig.its not a stock rebuild thats for sure but its no racing engine..... i will be somewhat racing with this...... i will feel much better getting that 10553 pump....
