USing stock fuel pump for carb pickup???

USing stock fuel pump for carb pickup???
Im swapping from TBI to carb and am going to be using a mechanical fuel pump instead of an in-line electric and was wondering if it is possible to use my stock fuel pump as a pickup for the mechanical fuel pump instead of removing the tank to install an aftermarket pickup in the tank?

Why not use a regulator and keep electric pump and return line? Works great.
Holley bypass regulaor Jegs part#510-12-803BP. You can adjust pressure at the carb from 4.5-9psi.A dynamic(return type system) system responds faster to fuel demand and does a better jobkeeping the float bowl full in track and street applications.
I've done some research on this subject and all the pros recomend dynamic over static(non-return) systems. There is a good article on fuel delivery systems in the new June issue of Chevy High Performance. I've run this system for 7,000 miles now w/ no problems or worries.

do you know where i can get this dynamic return type system your talking about. Im very new to carbs and dont know exaclty what to buy for the setup. I planned on using stock fuel lines with a regulator and bypass for the return line.

Your system is dynamic, all I am saying is keep the electric fuel pump, run a bypass regulator between 5-6 lbs of pressure. Run your feed line from the tank into the regulator. Return line back to tank and the regulated line to carb. I ran my stock pressurised rubber hoses (had to buy a couple of threaded fittings) and return right in/out of the regulator.
If you go mechanical there is no return line back to tank. Also this way you can keep the stock fuel line ventilation system(cannister) in place.
The Holley regulator I mentioned has complete easy instructions for installation it costs $68.00...

Yes , you could do that, I would put a kill switch on it though. There is a good instructional thread, on changing over to carbs on here. You should read it, it answers many questions. You can pickup the wire under the drivers side door sill.

or you can just get a mechanical pump on the side of your engine. run your fuel line to it, and a line to your carb. there is no return line. disable your old pump in the tank and never worry about changing fuel pumps in the tank for the rest of your cars life. cost 18 bucks at any local auto parts store.
