Replacing a cam and Lifters
Replacing a cam and Lifters
I have been told and its makes perfect sense that a used camshaft and its lifters are consider one set after being broken in (a couple thousand miles?). Should I even consider buying a camshaft with 3,000 miles and install it with brand new lifters?!?!?!?!?!?!

what kind of cam....flat tappet or roller?? roller you can just put the lifters in and it's fine....flat tappet the lifters need to be put back in the same place they came out...I believe if their not marked buy new lifters, and break it in..... Are you buying a aftermarket cam of a factory cam??? If you have the ability or know someone that has the ability, you should degree the cam....I've seen many cams ground off center and you have to advance or retard them to get them "straight up"....I put a crane cam in a car recently that was ground 8 degrees retarded..so we had to advance it 8 deg. to get it where it supposed to be. Comp cams, so far, have always been right on.....if you don't have the equipement to do that you most likely are probably going to be fine, and I wouldn't worry to much about it....just some info for ya.

Take a look at it. If no lobes are obviously worn, then it'll be fine with new lifters, or better yet, the old lifters, put in the right holes.
If the lobes look slightly worn, it's fine. A brand new cam loses it's coating in 20 minutes of break in, then looks (and works) the same for about 150,000 miles before you start losing lift due to wear.
