Please HELP!!!

I was wondering if anyone out there can help me diagnose a problem with my ignition cylinder, it all started a couple days ago, I drove my 1991 Camaro RS V6 3.1 to my grandparents house, pulled in front of garage turned off, popped hood then reached in to turn car back on but the cylinder wouldnt budge (car was in park) so we had to force her into neutral and roll her out of the way. a little info that might be helpful- the column is out of a 92(i think) the reason it was replaced is bc the previous owner took a screwdriver to the column and messed it up. but anyways I went down to chevrolet got a new key made (for 40 bucks!!!!!!!!absolutely CRAZY!!!!!JUST FOR 1 KEY!!!!!) and got a new cylinder from oreilly with a limited lifetime warranty I need to know if there is anything else I should have to worry about, I heard there is like some transmission cable or something that tells it not to start in gear and that could be bad and causing it not to turn over, (the car is an automatic) I'm just thinking it's the cylinder bc it's from a column from a junk yard and was just old etc. I could be wrong, but we're gonna put the ignition in soon. well any ideas? thanks for all the help it is greatly appreciated.!

Re: Please HELP!!!

did you pull in straight? or on a turn?
try to jiggle the wheel from left to right while turning the key
the wheel locks sometimes get tough when parked sertin ways

Re: Please HELP!!!

I believe it was pulled in straight. BAD news. we put the new cylinder in and can't turn it over, we tried the key gm made and even the keys that came with the cylinder is there some cable or something I know there is like two metal rods and they move on the outside of the column when you turn it over, well we're gonna try and put it back together and I'll try jiggling the steering wheel, but I don't think that's the problem please can someone help me with this it's getting expensive and hard to solve thanks again to everyone who can help!

Re: Please HELP!!!

dont forget that if you change you lock cylinder to a new one you need a key with a chip in it that matches you original one if you vats is still hooked up. other wist the car wont start.

Re: Please HELP!!!

I figured out the problem! apparently a spring broke on the opposite side of the cylinder and stopped it from letting a gear turn and start, yea the key I got has a chip(that's why I was complaining about the forty dollar key!) and I finally started it up, it is fine but I can't turn it back to accessory, oh well. I'm just happy to hear it run, I thank you for all your help oh and ps. when you buy a new cylinder and don't want to go back with vats, do you solder the resistor between the two wires that are ran from the ignition? the sticky isn't very clear it says two yellow, I've got two white inside a orange cover sleeve, thanks again!
