7,000 RPM?!
So I finally floored it in my car for the first time. I dont plan on making it a regular thing with 161 thousand miles on the clock. I was REALLY surprised to see the RPM's go all the way up to 7k! I had no idea it would do that since it starts to get into the red around 6k. Is this normally what happens? When would the Rev. limiter think about kicking in? The acelleration was alright considering its an all stock 91 RS with a 305 but I had no idea the engine was capable of 7k rpms!

FYI, you're not really turning 7000 RPM
Your tach is way off. All 91-92 tachs are. Search for a huge thread on how to fix it.

Sounds like you watch to much fast and the furious. There's no rev limiter.
All stock tachs are a POS.

Re: 7,000 RPM?!
Yes Please. Because I searched " 91 tach " and I didnt find anything relevant.
To say that my engine isnt turning 7,000 RPM's now I would believe that because I know its not really built for performance but any error with the tachometer I would be interested in fixing if its not to hard.

All my stock gauges are off. I installed new autometer gauges and the stock gauges dont match the new gauges. But you also talking 25 yr old gauges so in most third gens i believe there not accruate.

Re: 7,000 RPM?!
I had this issie in my '91 RS LO3/700R-4. So I hooked up an AutoMeter tach. My 130,000 mile LO3, with NO mods except air cleaner and Flowmaster muffler, was pulling 6200 rpm in first gear, despite it being out of breath. I replaced the timing chain, and never again saw the high side of 5000 in gear.
