Engine Squeeling

Before you say "Belts" it's not belts.

I have a 305 TBI 1989 firebird v8. I have the ac unit and it doesn't work unless I refil it everyear and honestly I rather roll my windows down. So I found out that my ac compressor is squeeling. I took it for a long drive and then stopped (2hrs) and and thing was smoking.. I don't want to replace the compressor just for this. Is there a belt config that removes the compressor from the equasion?

Even better, there one that removes the ozone pump too? My province I live in doesn't requirement to have a catalytic converter anymore, my car is now exempted from this.

I also want to put a large open air filter on the car but i can't seem to figure out how to get the o2 sensor off the old set, any hints? I read the TBI ultimate guide but it didn't mention how to remove that part. Otherwise I am getting a check engine light after 4-10min of driving.

Any help on these topics would be awsome.

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.

For the AC and pump deletion, search "ac delete" and "smog pump delete". That should yield the info you're looking for.

The sensor in the air cleaner is not the O2 sensor, it is the Inlet Air Temperature sensor or IAT. You need to put it in whatever air cleaner you install. Without that information, the computer can't make proper air/fuel mixture decisions.

You need to find out what trouble code(s) is (are) being set when the engine light comes on. If you don't have access to a scan tool, the FAQ linked from the thirdgen.org homepage has details on how to retrieve them.

Re: Engine Squeeling

Thanks!! That was a lot simpler then I thought.

Here's one more, on my firebird I have pop-up headlights. Which one is considered the left and which is the right? It all depends on the direction your looking at them.

Left is traditionally drivers side and right passenger.
