There is 2 ways to do what you want!

1. Have the block machined at the lifter pockets and drilled and tapped for the retainer. if you look at the top of the lifter bores on a early and pate block you will see the difference. I do not suggest doing it this way!

2. Go with a roller lifter setup that is designed for a early block. here is a link to a set for a BB, you can find the ones that you need for your motor however this will give you a idea what you are looking for.

I used them once in a 84 Camaro 355 I built some years back and did not have any problems. I think the ones I used were from Crane. I have never heard of any failing. How many RPM's you plan on turning thie motor?

Re: putting roller set up into a pre 87 block

i dont plan going anything past 6200-6500 rpm. with this motor and approx. 500hp is what is expected. i am trying to get a feel for their longevity. and want to make sure that they areny prone to breaking. if they are i will stay flat tappet and take my chances that way but if i can go roller i will. how does everyone feel about using slightly used roller lifters on a new cam?
