Changing out cam

Hi guys..I am posting this for my son..who is in the middle of trying to get the
camshaft out of his 84-305... the dang thing is stuck..I did some searching and told him to turn the cam and try to pull..but I am afraid we are missing something...he has the top of the motor off... pulled the distributor, etc.

I read the the camshaft installation guide..but things never go that smoothly...especially with Mom reading the directions over the phone..sigh~

Does that year have a Cam sensor..does that need to be pulled...and where may be located.

Thank you to anyone that may reply.

aka Lirahs..
Who by the way has her own Camaro..just a little 2.8..but I love it even after almost the $3500 that went into it..and it still needs a paint job.

Re: Changing out cam

As long as all the lifters are removed, and the distributor is removed, the cam should slide out with a bit of turning and negotiation to cleaar the bearings.

Re: Changing out cam

Thanks guys...2 minutes after I made the post he called and told me about the fuel pump. Couldn't figure why ever time he turned it he got sprayed with gas.

My kid is a Senior in High School..this is a huge project for him. And a $900 savings for me..labor coast...with him doing the work.

Thank you again.
