fuel filter location and weak spark
fuel filter location and weak spark
this is an 83 z28 with the 305......where is the fuel filter at?... was it on the original carb?.....another thing, it is really hard to get started and keep running, when it finally does, it wont idle and sputters and backfires when holding the gas to keep it running.......new plugs, wires coil and cap....when it wasnt starting before i checked for spark and instead of normal spark, it was jumping back down to the plug itself and was very weak, took the ign module and got it tested and was good......cleaned the connections and it would then fire......went to mess with it again today and spark is not very good at all, but enuff to get it fired up with the symptoms above^.........what else would cause weak spark?.....

Re: fuel filter location and weak spark
The filter is in the QJ, where the fuel line enters. Weak spark could be a poorly grounded coul, but it sounds like you might have the initial timing too advanced.

If you pop the cap and crank the engine, you'll see the rotor going clockwise, as viewed from above. Thus turning the dizzy CCW advances the timing.
