88 rs problem

I just purchased an 88' RS with 40,xxx original miles but has a blown head,or gasket..have decided yet...I'm picking it up friday.
It has the v6, with a 5-speed in it.
I noticed there were only 7,000 of these made total and only in California, texas and florida.
Body is great,interior is great.
Question is, should l keep the v6 and get it fixed because of the limited production or go with a v8.
And, can l use the 5speed thats in it, on a 305 or 350.
I have another im picking up saturday, a 91 rs with a v6 auto that l could drop my 350 in so if its a good idea to keep the 88 original l will.
Opinions???

Fact: A sbc v8 won't interchange with a 60° bolt pattern on your 5-speed. Opinion: Get the v6 fixed.
