Rear Posi?

So the other day I just floored it and their was soo much smoke I couldn't see the tire marks on the road. So I go back and only see one tire mark on the street... I thought these things had Posi rear ends? I have a 1988 L98 GTA.

A shot limited slip will act like an open.

Re: Rear Posi?

Too many burnouts over the years will do that to a LIMITED SLIP. they were not designed for that type of amusement.

Re: Rear Posi?

well that sucks... The car isn't beat on that often, and I hope the previous owner didn't beat on it. There is no whining at all from the gears and it drives smooth, so I wouldn't think there would be anything wrong with it. It drives like a new car.

Re: Rear Posi?

Pop the cover and look (a decade or more has probably passed since the diff was serviced). If you have a limited slip in place and you're getting a one-wheel peel, the L/S is toast.

Re: Rear Posi?

It's likely a Borg Warner 9 bolt. The cone posi tends to live a short life. Also, all the grit from the cones wearing trashes all the bearings if the oil isn't changed often. It's just not a great design (even though it's stronger than a 10 bolt). They can be fixed, but not cheaply.
