SBC Block Casting Numbers

I got two motors just laying around. One came out of an old graintruck and my dad said it should be a four bolt main and steel crank.

The other one we always had, it has the "double hump" heads on it.

One engine has 3892657 on the block, the other 397001(or 7)(0?) EDIT, looking at it closer its 3970010 (pretty sure).

Anything worth while? Size would be nice to know too. Thanks guys

Re: SBC Block Casting Numbers

The 010 block is a very common casting used for many years in many models and was used to make 4" bore engines such as 302, 327 and 350. It's probably the most common casting to be used in a rebuild.

The 657 block was also used to make all 3 of the 4" bore engines all in 1967.

Getting the suffix numbers can tell a lot more about the engines. Look for the stamped numbers on a pad in front of the passenger side head.
