HELP HELP

Ok 1st ever did I hear something like this,

I went for a cruise yesterday and got in to traffic on the way back to storage, so car got a lil hot. Get there and I turn it off for about 10min let to cool down before I put her (car) away.

I start her up-ok
Pull her in -ok
Turn her off- ok
Realize I just didn’t pull back far enough. So I started her up again and backed up, at this time I though something funny-but didn’t place my ear on it, until I turned the motor off...

The car was screaming and whining sound as if it was a prop plan starting up. Very electrical and like a motor...

I am like what the. I go to turn car back on- nothing. I turn car off and pull key.
Sound still there, now I am freaking out, jump out of car look under- see nothing look in bay- see nothing but sounds to be towards the fire wall / back off motor.

Either way I don’t like that it’s still going- so I grab a set of wrenches and disconnect the battery.

It goes off.

I look around and see nothing.

So I connect the battery until I hear the sound shoot back on and I disconnect again.

Problem was I was already late and had to leave her where she was...
Now with a night of restless wonder, I am at work going crazy to know what it was.

And how to fix...

Does anyone have any ideal what it could be?

I intend to go back to storage with the hope that it will not make the same noise and she simply fixed herself over night....but prob wont happen that way...

Anythoughts be great

Re: HELP HELP

Ok, that will be the first thing I try.

What ever it is though it is eletrical, because it went off once battery was disconnected-yet ran when motor was off.

Thanks for the reply

Re: HELP HELP

Do you have power antenna? With the ignition off and key out, the only thing I can think of that has a motor and would be working would be power antenna, trying to pull back the antenna. They continue working indefinitely until they meet physical resistance. If this is your case, then the nylon inside the antenna is broken and motor is spinning freely.

But the location of the sound does not match this suggestion.

The A/C blower motor would not work with the key out, if wiring is not modified otherwise.

Another possibility is the MAF burnoff relay not disengaging, seems unlikely though.

Check the amperage draw on the battery if you have ammeter, at least to make sure the battery does not drain till the issue is resolved. Divide the a-h rating (something like 100 A-H meaning ampere-hours) by the current draw and you'll find how many hours it can run before being dead.

I would also double check where the sound is coming.

Re: HELP HELP

It could be your headlight motors are still engaged or something. If it is that you would be able to see your headlight motors spinning still. Your fuel pump could be that but it is not usualy that loud and its in the back anyways.

Re: HELP HELP

I mean, it was really loud. But it was also in the storage unit at the time so it could of just been that loud due to echo-either way even with out echo, still was alot louder.

I will just have to go back and conect the battery and see what happens- if it continues then try to locate the sound. But I am really sure it was Pass/side back by the wall.

Maybe the relay got stuck-?
I dont know, I do keep the Vent / Fan on at all times though? I will turn everything off before I connect the battery and try to start her up

Re: HELP HELP

So, I went backto storage
Hooked up the battery- With everything off...

And nuthing happened, not a peep.
So I went to start it.

And it wont, so I am like what????? No click, nuthing...Fusterated I get out walk around dumb founded and then go...Oh the alarm.
So I got to turn off wit the key...and nuthing...

What????

Battery dead. RRRRR
So I go to the nearest radio shack (40min away) get a battery ($5.00)
Went back again, hit the button car clicks and starts right up.
I let it run while I looked at everything and listened for the sound...

Long and behold- not a peep. I am like huh, let me turn it off and see what I have then. So I turn off and she (car) shuts down as she should.

No crazy sound.
What was it... I dont have a clue, why did it do it that one time? I dont know either.

Would it be safe to say the relay stuck due to the heat? maybe

Either way I am happy now....as long as it dont happen again...LOL

Thanks for all the replys and the ideals- Mentaly it helped alot

Re: HELP HELP

Beware that these things generally don't go away on their own, I'd be careful.

Re: HELP HELP

Re: HELP HELP

I started her up again and went to get gas (not thrilled about the new Jump $$), but I turned on the vent / fan and I could hear the same sound, just really faint.
I am almost 100% UNCLE TOM is right.
motor or relay,

But got to be the blower

Only this time when I turned the car off- it hummed and whinned out slowly for a sec or two afterwards vers the screaming it did the other day.
