Alternator Bracket not matching up with new intake

so i had a collapsed lifter which was causing the ticking sound in my car, took the old intake off and fixed it. instead of putting it back on i decided to put a new intake, nothing fancy. so i got a Weiland one from Summit.
the intake is bolted up and im in the process of putting everything back together.

I saw that the alternator bracket will match up for the bolt that goes in the water pump, as for the intake, its off enough to where i cant get any bolt in?

will it be fine with just the water pump bolt? will i have to get something special?

perhaps my friend could cut it, weld a bit of metal to extend it then bolt it in. any ideas?

You need to bolt the bracket down properly. How far off is the hole? Can you grind the hole a little longer?

that is why i spend a lot of time upgrading with gm parts that can be modified to work better. but then again i dont make any radical changes.

Well, after 40 years of SBC production certain 'minor' changes crept in. Recently, I've replaced a water pump on my '75 C20 with a brand new Delco unit. The alternator lug, on top of the water pump was moved about 1/2" toward engine block from its original location on a new water pump! I had to find a piece of ID 3/8" pipe soft steel material to make a spacer and a slightly longer bolt. My guess is that to keep inventory numbers down the same part number is called out for '70 applications.

Bolt on is only as good as it gets, but there is nod excuse for Delco to do the same (without at least making a mention in the catalog).

it seemed to be about half and half.

i mean the right half of the intake hole was visible through the left half of the bracket hole.

well like i said, i can bolt up the alternator side, and also the water pump bolt.
i was wondering if it would cause a problem if that one part wasn't bolted into the intake.

i also have to find a way to hook up the throttle links to the "new" carb
