First of all, I want to say hi and that this is an awesome site. The f-body is one of my favorite cars of all time, (mostly 4th and 1st gens). The reason I joined this site is because I have a slight problem.

About 5 weeks ago I sold an engine on Ebay (vortec 305) that I was going to use in my daily driver s10 but ran short on funds so I decided to sell it. It was used when I bought it, and decided to put a cam in it (LT4 hot cam), GMPP timing set, GMPP bolt set, Comp Cams behive springs, plus all new gaskets, valve seals etc... Anyways I wanted it to be a high reving motor for the application I was using.

So I sold it on ebay, and about 3 weeks later the guy emails me and says he can't get it to run. Basically makes up a bunch of stuff, I try to help him as much as I can in the following weeks, making sure everything is hooked up right etc, and he keeps finding problems, making more stuff up. Then after I proved him wrong, he says he called up Summit and the rep told him the LT4 hotcam will not work in a 305 PERIOD, and I told him he was full of ****. Anyways, hes threatening to take me to court now, and I am trying to gather as much information as I can to disprove everything he has been saying. Im an honest dude, just trying to deal with people who put the blame on you because they can't get the engine to run for their application.

Any information would be greatful regarding the LT4 hotcam. I know there are alot of 305 guys on this site (the reason I joined.) You can read alot of his emails on this forum which I made a thread about. I laughed when I read his emails and Im sure you will do the same.

Did you promise him it would run? Did you even hear it run as it was before you sold it to him? I wouldnt worry about it too much. I have run into similar problems with a car I sold. Sold an old Mazda Mx-6 to a guy. Ran fine when he bought it, couple of days later it breaks down. He comes to me and I tried to help him with it, but it was a little more serious than I could deal with at the time. Had to cut the apron strings, if we could all magically look into a car and tell when something will go wrong, then there would be no break downs. How do you know he isnt just an idiot that cant work on a bent paperclip? You tried to help him out, it didnt work. Surely you didnt give him any kind of implied warranty?

 

The guy has to burn a chip to get it running right.
