Re: starting trouble
I had this problem once, right after I bought my '91 RS 305, but once I got it started, I never had that problem again, and my security light was not lit. I was using the original key in the original steering column with the original VATS module and computer. I did have a problem with the VATS (security) in my sister's '90 firebird that had had it's steering column and ignition key replaced, but the symptoms were entirely different. I ended up making a new resistor that had the same resistance as the car's original ignition key.

Re: starting trouble
most likely. this is the kind of info you should include in your first post. You'll have to try all 13 different resistances( is that a word? ) but this is easy with an assortment from radio shack. I think it cost me less than $20.
