couple part suggestions for a rookie
I have a fresh 350 30 over flatop pistons.I ordered a set of summit iron vortec heads.I need to order a carb, intake, and dist this week.I would like any suggestions on these as I have little experiance with motor setup. The block is just a basic rebuild 4 bolt, polished crank ,new bearings, double roller, high volume oil pump. The machine shop tech suggested around a 500 lift cam as the springs are good to 520.(He,s not a performance guy just a machinest for 20 years)does this sound good? The cam is included in the price but he said he can get me what I want for size.I was thinking something like an air gap but would like a user friendly carb as my knowledge is very limited.

Are the Summit Vortec heads machined for increased lift? They're going to have to be (if they aren't already), if you're after the .500's in lift. If not, you're going to be stuck around the .450" ish lift figures.
What's the target compression ratio? Is the block decked? What's the valve reliefs of the pistons?
Air gaps are great street intakes. One of the best, in my mind. As for carbs, you're probably going to get plenty who suggest Holleys. While they're great, the most user friendly is going to be the Edelbrock.
For distributor, you'll need one with a vacuum advance. Can't go wrong with MSD, obviously. I've used Mallory ignition products personally, and they've worked well for me.

Re: couple part suggestions for a rookie
block was checked and bored .30 over not sure if it was resurfaced I told the shop to check for cracks and do whatever the block needed.I will have to ckeck on this to be sure.I asked about any clearance issues using the summitt vortecs and he said they were fine.Again I am very novice at this. What info should I find out from the shop?and how do I determine my compression ratio?on the distributor is HEI ok?The summitt vortecs are setup to handle up to 520 lift.I was going to buy 1.6 roller tips or just standard 1.6 rockers.any thoughts?
