Re: Intake Bolt

If you cant get a socket on there, but have enough room to get a wrench, try getting a slightly undersized cheapy open ended wrench and force it on (hammer, etc).

If it makes you feel any better, I'm fighting with a pipe fitting the previous owner installed in the side of the driver's side head. No nut to grab onto, just threads. Just ordered a set of pipe extractors off ebay to see if it'll do the job a propane torch and vice grips couldn't.

Re: Intake Bolt

If worse comes to worse, you can grind the head off. You should be able to get the intake off then. Then you could put two nuts on it and jam them together. Or, drill it out and use an extractor (ez-out). Or maybe you could grab it with vise grips and twist it out if it's not siezed too badly.

Once the intake is off, you could also square up the shank by grinding the threads down and use a 1/4" wrench on it. Last resort weld something to it. Absolute final result, grind it down flush with the deck and drill it all the way out. Tap and repair with heli-coil. Good luck.

Re: Intake Bolt

A cople of other things that werent mentioned.
Try a dual patern wrench (one that fits metric and standard) or a flare nut wrench.
Heat up the bolt with a propane torch and drip some candle wax along side it. The heat should wick the wax into the threads.

Good luck

Re: Intake Bolt

ive seen the wax trick, but we used it on oil galley plugs, and we used an acetylene torch. it made quick work of them though. dont see why propane wouldnt work

Re: Intake Bolt

I couldn't get a few intake bolts out myself (the ones that go in the coolant passages). I tried PB Blaster, heat, candle wax...etc Nothing worked. I'm not sure what you call them, but my dad had these sockets that get rounded out bolts loose. It was a socket with these razor sharp teeth in it. We put it over the bolt, hammered it on, got a wrench on there and they came right out.
