305 Heads

Alright folks give me some opinions. I have a 92 rs with 305 tbi im going to keep the tbi part but i am going to a 350. I was just told to keep the 305 heads due to the fact that they have a smaller combustion chamber and that would be a better setup i have my doubts. what does everyone else think.

Re: 305 Heads

ive been thinkin bout doin this head swap to. from what i was hearing it should boost compression close to 11 to 1 which means more tourque and having to run higher octane fuel but on the downside the 305 heads have worse flow numbers so you loose top end. then theres the possibility of blowin out rings? so i think with a decent port job it should be a cheap way to gain power. every casting is different though so the size of the combustion chambers and flow numbers are different. so check casting numbers first. let me kno if you find any more info about it.

Re: 305 Heads

Do a search for 14014416 castings. I can't remember who, but one member on here posted up some flow numbers for those heads and after some work they are pretty good. I have them on my 350 with the factory dished pistons to raise compression a bit. The bottom end was in perfect shape except for needing the crank turned and the heads were free so I ported them myself and put them on.

Really it depends on the casting numbers on the cc's of the head. I could have a set of 882's which has a cc of 76 or you could have(doubtful) 441's which have a cc of 58 to 62. Get the casting numbers and I will see what I can find for you.

Re: 305 Heads

your LO3 did not come with the 416 heads, it came with swirl-port heads, don't plan on turning a 350 much over 4000 rpm if you try them. LO3 heads don't flow.
