I have a decent ticking noise after I get done racing my car at the track, I drive it there and drive it home so it only does it on the way home. It's about a 35 mile drive and does it about 25 miles of the trip and then stops again, i have a slight loss of power when it happens, but temp does not go up and oil pressure does not go down. I'm thinking that I have to adjust the rocker arms but i'm afraid of making my cam flat by doing that....

so the question is, how the heck do i tell what size cam I have in the motor? the guy that built the internals won't call me back to tell me ANYTHING... rod size, valve size, cam size... nothing, so how do i find out? the sooner the answer the better cause im going to take the covers off tomorrow and see if i can find anything...

p.s. finally got my car to get me to Runner Up in the 1/8 mile bracket race for No Electronics Street Class at Thundervalley Raceway... I'm so proud of how consistent I was able to keep her going from 97* start to about 79* at finals! WOOO HOOO!! lol

 

if you wanting to know the duration you need to degree the cam, which means taking off all the accessories and using a degree wheel. if you want to know the lift numbers, you could use a dial indicator micrometer on you rockers and turn you motor complete over and read the high readings. do this on intake and exhaust. depending on what type of cam your running will determine how to adjust your valve lash. only way of figuring that out is looking at the cam. you might be able to read the cam part number if you take your timing chain off. then that would give you all info on the cam. hope this helps.

p.s. i think im just going to tighten the rockers and be done, they are loose as hell and they just slap around under there.... IT NEEDS TO BE DONE!

 

do you have stamped rockers? roller? just make sure you adjust it when the motor is hot. (up to temp)

I agree that the guy who sold it to you should be returning your calls. Dumb question but how are the exhaust/header gaskets? I've been told an old trick to tracking internal ticking is to use a long breakerbar or extension - place one end on the compenent/area you want to check, place an ear on the other end and notice the sound, then check another are that should be the same and compare. Sorry if it sounds mundane or stupid. Hope you get back on the road soon.Yea-Dave's photos make me impotent! HAHA
